About

My first serious photos were taken with an 8mm movie camera and I eventually became a documentary film editor. So when it comes to still photography, it's not natural for me to focus on a single, stand alone image. I'm most comfortable taking pictures in the midst of an activity, at a family event, or while traveling. Something with a bit of a narrative to it, or a place to be described.

The photos are grouped into the three categories noted below. We'll see how this structure evolves as I post more pictures.

Family Moments

In recent years, these family photos have acquired greater meaning as my parents have aged and died. But now, with my younger brother Rob's death, there can be a weight to them that I don't particularly welcome. I've been blessed to be a part of this loving family. I'm grateful for our many shared moments and glad to have photos of a few of them.

Photographs

I'm not quite sure what this collection of "Photographs" will become. At this point it's photos that aren't in the "Family Moments" section or the "Travel"section.

Travel

The travel photos are organized by destination and year with more particular subsets to explore as you like. If I were to actually post the many travel photos I've accumulated over the years, I would likely need to spin this section off to a separate web page with a different organizational structure.

Tech Notes

All the pictures are scans of varying quality from 35mm B&W or color negatives along with a few from color slides. That's not to say some iPhone snaps won't eventually sneak in. I bought a Nikkormat in 1971 and used it until 1987 when I bought the FM2 I still use today. A Nikkor 50mm was my only lens until 1999 when, before a trip to Europe, I added the 24mm lens that became my favorite.
